Phillip James Sperfslage – Manchester

Philip James Sperfslage, age 73, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away surrounded by his loving family at Harmony Cedar Rapids in Cedar Rapids, on Tuesday, December 5, 2023.

He was born on August 25, 1950, in Monticello, the son of James and Faye (Kauffman) Sperfslage. He was raised on a farm near Earlville, graduating in 1968 from Maquoketa Valley High School. Philip joined the United States Air Force after graduation. He served as a gunner on the mortar squad and drove tanks. Philip was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1972. On October 19, 1971, Philip was united in marriage to Debora Wade in Hill City, South Dakota. One daughter was born to this union. The couple were later divorced. Philip worked for Trask Motors in Custer, South Dakota and then later for Frontier Ford in Rapid City, South Dakota as a mechanic. In 1978, Philip moved to Manchester and worked as the parts manager for J.M. Jones and then worked for NE Iowa Telephone Company. On August 30, 1997, Philip was united in marriage to Dianne (McGrane) Eickstaedt at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Philip enjoyed fishing, motorcycles, and antique lawn tractors. He most enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his daughter, Cari (Ramon) Redondo of Marion; two stepchildren, Troy (Tracey) Eickstaedt of Tallahassee, Florida and Alicia (Shawn) Kimball of Indianola; four grandchildren, Haley(Mitch), Dominique (Eli), Ray, and Adeline; four great-grandchildren, Kinnley, Kason, Eloise, and Carter; one sister, Kaye Wall of Delhi; two brothers, Mark (JoEllen) Sperfslage of Bettendorf and Paul (Ann) Sperfslage of Manchester; and several nieces and nephews.

Philip was preceded in death by his parents; his second wife, Dianne in 2012; his brother Steven Sperfslage and a stillborn infant sibling; and brother-in-law, Ted Wall.

Memorial Service: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester, Iowa, with Reverend Kurt Pasko officiating. Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, December 15, 2023, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester, Iowa. Inurnment with Military Rites: St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Earlville, Iowa.
