Elaine M. Shaw – Springville

Elaine M. Shaw, 77, of Springville, Iowa, passed away Monday, March 18, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Visitation will be held from 3-8 pm on Friday, March 22, 2024, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. Visitation will continue one hour prior to Mass of Christian Burial that will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at St. Isidore Catholic Church located at 603 6th Ave Springville, Iowa, Reverend Andrew Awotwe-Mensah will be officiating.  Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Colesburg, Iowa.

Elaine was born May 30, 1946, in Dyersville, Iowa, the daughter of George C. and Alice E. (Hoeger) Gaul. She graduated from St. Boniface High School in New Vienna in 1963. She married Leonard Hildebrand on June 12, 1965, at St. Francis Basilica, Dyersville. He passed away on September 10, 1980. On December 6, 1985, she married David Shaw at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Colesburg. Elaine took great pride in raising her family.  She also worked at Ertl’s in Dyersville, Tom Jenk Law Offices, and Hy-Vee retiring in 2014. Elaine was a faithful woman who was very involved in her church. She was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church and Ladies Guild and Springville VFW Auxiliary.  She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, quilting, playing cards and reading. Her greatest joy was time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Elaine is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband David of Springville, children, Kevin (Cheri) Hildebrand, Debie Vorwald (Brad), Terry Hildebrand (Ronnee), Linda Hildebrand (Jamie), Donna (Richard Jr.) Drake, Peter (Vicki) Shaw and Joe (Brandi) Shaw; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, John Joe (Kay) Gaul; sisters, Phyllis Hildebrand and Karla (Bob) Kluesner; in-laws Barbara Gaul and Judy Gaul, Genevieve (Bob) Frentress, Helen (Bob) Manternach, Iola Millard, Larry (Kay) Shaw, Doug (Mary) Shaw, Charlotte Shaw, Joanne Hansel (Jim), Nancy (Ronnie) Savago, Marie Shaw, Marilyn Shaw, Cathy (Roger) Bartles, Verna (Vesse) Klostermann, Carol (David) Gaul, Norma (Dick) Kelchen, Steve Hildebrand, Rick (Donna) Hildebrand, Albert Jr. (Kelly) Hildebrand, Helen Hildebrand, Paul (Joyce) Wagner, Elaine Hildebrand and Helen Hildebrand, along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Leonard Hildebrand; parents George and Alice Gaul; parents-in-law Oliver and Frances Shaw, Albert Sr and Mary Hildebrand and Gladys Goepfert; brothers Daniel and Patrick Gaul; in-laws Richard, Frank, Charles, Michael and Marjorie Shaw, Glen Millard, Kenneth Hansel, Bob, Jerry, Tom, Loras and Joyce Hildebrand, Ruth Wagner, Mary Frances (Glen) Milligan, and Gladys Gaul.

Memorials in Elaine’s memory may be directed to Divine Word Seminary, Hall Perrine Cancer Center, Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, or St Isidore Catholic Church.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to Dr. Deb Wilbur, Nurse Practitioner’s, and the entire nurses and staff at Hall Perrine Cancer Center and the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for the care, support, and love they showed while caring for Elaine.
