Lewin Honored with Statewide Award for Helping Local Sexual Assault Victims

The woman who serves as Delaware County’s Victim Witness and Sexual Assault Response Teams Assistant has been honored with a statewide award for her efforts in helping local victims.

Tim Duax, who serves as the acting U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa, presented the Victim Witness Service Award to Brandi Lewin on Tuesday morning at the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office.

Delaware County Deputy Sheriff Jill Knipper says it means a lot to have Lewin and Delaware County recognized on the state level.

Lewin says she appreciates the honor.

Lewin took on the role about 15 months ago. Her teammates say not only has she come up with ideas on how to make the victim reporting process better, but she takes the initiative to implement those ideas too.

It’s a sad statistic to realize, but Delaware County has around thirty reports of sexual assault every year.

If you or someone you know has been a victim of sexual assault or any crime, you can reach out for support by calling Deputy Jill Knipper at the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office.
