Alburnett Driver Arrested after Linn County Pursuit

An Alburnett driver was arrested after leading authorities on a pursuit through Linn County on Thursday morning.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office says around 7:15 am, a deputy saw a maroon 2002 Mercury Sable traveling 70 in a 55-mile per hour zone on County Home Road. The vehicle turned southbound onto Highway 13 and that’s when the deputy tried pulling the vehicle over.

But the Sheriff’s Office says the driver refused to pull over and a vehicle pursuit began. The deputy pursued the vehicle southbound on Highway 13 to 35th Street and then eastbound on 35th Street to Lucore Road, where it turned north, reaching speeds approaching 80 miles per hour.

A Marion police officer and other Linn County deputies joined in to assist with the chase. The vehicle then crossed County Home Road to Scott Road and randomly pulled into a driveway, where the driver got out of the vehicle and surrendered to authorities.

The driver, 18-year old Trenton Hayes of Alburnett, was taken into custody. He has been charged with Attempting to Elude, Reckless Driving, Speeding and numerous other traffic offenses.

The Sheriff’s Office says fortunately, traffic was light at the time of the chase. No one was injured.
